Network Maintenance

What Does Network Maintenance Mean?
In the third party maintenance (TPM) industry, network maintenance is essentially what you need to do to keep your network up and running smoothly. This definition encompasses a number of duties such as installing and configuring hardware and software, troubleshooting network problems, monitoring and improving network performance, and planning for network growth.
There are basically two main approaches to handling network device maintenance—structured and interrupt-driven. A structured approach means you have systems in place to prevent problems before they happen. Even if a problem does arise, you’re well prepared to handle the situation. An interrupt-driven approach means you wait for a problem to happen and then scramble to fix it as quickly as possible. As you’ve probably already figured out, the interrupt-driven approach has the most cost, stress, and downtime of the two.
Why IT Network Maintenance is Important
Now, there are some problems that you can’t possibly prepare for. Sometimes you have no choice but to use the interrupt-driven approach to resolve your network issues. If you’re covered by a third party maintenance provider, you can rest easy knowing experienced engineers are taking care of the problem as soon as it happens.
TPMs take both approaches to network hardware maintenance when dealing with a client—preventing problems from happening as much as possible but being well-prepared for them when they do. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) often provide similar support but they’re usually slower and more expensive than a TPM provider.
